Cavan General has 'plans' to deal with Covid-19 demands

Cavan and Monaghan Hospital Group has “plans in place” to manage the “additional demands” placed on the local facility due to the spread of Covid-19.

In a statement issued by the RSCI Hospital Group, of which Cavan General and Monaghan Hospital are part of, a spokesperson confirmed: 'Cavan General Hospital has plans in place to manage additional demands due to COVID-19. The Hospital has areas designated for care of patients with COVID-19, patients who are awaiting diagnosis and patients who are not.'

The statement comes as brave front-line staff are working hard under the most difficult of circumstances to treat patients at the facility.

They add: 'There is capacity available for all of these patients.'

The spokesperson further stated that in January 2020, prior to the COVID-19 outbreak in Ireland, the absenteeism rate within Cavan General Hospital was at a rate of 5.6%.

It is presently at 12.2%.

'The Hospital continues to have a number of staff off at present.'

The statement follows information provided to The Anglo-Celt and other media outlets that two wards at Cavan General Hospital have been closed off following what had been described as an 'outbreak' of Covid-19 infections.

It comes also amid reports this lunchtime that a specialist medical team is being set to Cavan General to deal with the 'outbreak' there.

It's understood the team is made up of medical professionals being dispatched from Dublin's Beaumont hospital.

Restrictions were placed Medical Wards 1 and 2 at Cavan General from Tuesday last.

Surgical 1 and Surgical 2 at Cavan General been also has been closed off, and are now being used as dedicated wards to treat 'Covid-19 positive patients only.'

The hospital currently has 38 patients with confirmed Covid-19 infection.

To date, 87 patients have tested positive.
