Free climate action course for Cavan communities
An opportunity for local communities to respond to climate change - in a way that makes their places healthier and more sustainable - is coming to County Cavan.
Cavan County Local Development (CCLD) is working with pioneering sustainability entrepreneurs and educators to offer ‘Cavan Communities 4 Climate Action’ - a FREE 8-week course starting in May, with more courses planned for later in the year.
Thursday, March 19 sees the launch of ‘Cavan Communities 4 Climate Action’ with RTÉ’s Duncan Stewart at the Hotel Kilmore in Cavan Town.
Hosted by CCLD and supported by Cavan PPN this launch event on the 19th will introduce opportunities for Cavan communities with Duncan Stewart. Inspiring local projects will present, while course tutors Gavin Harte and Davie Philip, co-founders of Cloughjordan Ecovillage, will outline what the course offers.
Duncan Stewart said, “Climate Change is already challenging Irish society both nationally and locally and is having a growing impact on Irish communities.”
The training will enable local communities to respond to the climate challenge and help people to identify projects that may be eligible for Cavan LEADER funding.
“This course goes beyond just reducing our impact on the environment,” says Davie Philip of Cultivate, one of the course tutors. “Through community energy, zero waste, transport and food initiatives the training demonstrates how we can strengthen our local economies and make our places more resilient to change.”
Participants will also have a unique opportunity to visit the Cloughjordan Ecovillage in Tipperary to learn about real climate action projects that can help reduce their own communities carbon footprint.
Unique opportunity
Gavin Harte of ESD Training, another course tutor said, “We are inviting individuals and groups in County Cavan to sign up for one of the three courses at the launch on the 19th of March. This is a unique opportunity to make local communities more livable while responding to the climate change challenge.”
