Teach Oscail Family Resource Centre in Cavan Town is a popular service in the community, evidenced by the huge number of nominations it received for this year's Cavan Business and Tourism Awards.
The family resource centre has grown from a staff of just three to 38. Based at 31 Church Street in the heart of Cavan Town, the team supports families and young people in the community.
“We support in the home and at our centre,” explained Jessie Elliott.
“We support vulnerable young people and we are also involved in community development. We have support groups that run at the centre. And we help families that are most in need at Christmas time,” she added.
Services including counselling, mediation, parenting programmes and social prescribing of other supports in the community, as well as a range of events and activities in the community including mental health photography.
Teach Oscail is also currently running a ‘One Special Day’ Christmas appeal to ensure all families in Cavan have a good meal, a warm home and a present to give their children on Christmas Day.
Meanwhile, the centre also runs a heath and wellbeing programme. It helps people to integrate back into the community.
“We are also the Rape Crisis Centre for Cavan and link in with Rape Crisis Centre in Sligo,” Jessie continued.
“We can’t be everything to everyone but we work closely with the community and endeavour to deliver services that are needed locally.”
