Charged with moving car in fatal hit and run
A Lithuanian man has been charged with moving a vehicle involved in the fatal road traffic collision that claimed the life of Frank Nulty.
Cavan District Court, sitting last Thursday, November 9, heard that the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) had directed that Evaldas Gauliunas (39) of 44 Lismeen Hills, Ballyjamesduff, stand trial on indictment in relation to the charge.
Between the dates of August 18 and September 6, 2022, Mr Gauliunas is alleged to have been involved in moving a vehicle - a blue Mazda 6 saloon reg 151-G-6239 - from the location of a collision intending to have it repaired “thereby destroying evidence” and in addition “fled the jurisdiction” in order evade justice.
He is further charged that, on August 18, 2022, at Drumallaght, New Inns, he failed to keep in place a vehicle involved in the occurrence of injury to Mr Nulty.
The case against Mr Gauliunas’ was adjourned to late December for service of a Book of Evidence.
He appeared in court represented by solicitor Niall Fox. Legal aid was granted.
Mr Gauliunas’s faces two additional summonses relating to driving uninsured; and failing to produce documents, arising from the fatal incident at Drumallaght, New Inns.
