Minister to open new Virginia Civic Centre

Official opening will take place next week, Friday, October 13.

Minister Heather Humphreys will be in attendance to officially open the newly developed Virginia Civic, Cultural, and Library Services Centre.

The official opening will take place next week, Friday, October 13.

Cllr Philip Brady, Cathaoirleach of Cavan County Council and Padraic McIntyre, Manager, Ramor And Town Hall Theatres will also speak at the opening.

The transformative facility, which incorporates a state of the art new library, civic space, office space, and redeveloped Ramor Theatre, received almost €4 million in funding under the Rural Regeneration Development Fund (RRDF) through the Department of Rural and Community Development, with €1.3 million in match funding supplied by Cavan County Council.

Demac Construction Ltd oversaw construction of the Main Street development, which involves the transforming an existing former Parochial House into a new three-storey community library, meeting rooms and events/exhibition space.

The development was done in tandem with a major refurbishment of the adjacent Ramor Theatre.

The theatre works saw several upgrades implemented, including a link to the new box office space and library, through the construction of a shared foyer with the Civic Centre.

A civic space has also been developed, providing access to the lakeshore, boating marina, Virginia Show Centre, Virginia College, and the recently redeveloped lakeshore park.
