Rainy afternoon with spot flooding likely

Unsettled with outbreaks of rain or showers on most days, with the exception of a mostly dry day Saturday. That's the latest weather outlook from Met Éireann as a status yellow rain warning is set to take effect for 13 counties this evening - largely in the south of the country.

This morning will be mainly dry with bright or sunny spells, though cloudier further south. In the afternoon, persistent rain will develop in the south and spread northwards through the evening, heavy at times, especially in Munster and Leinster with spot flooding likely. Highest temperatures of 15 to 18 degrees with light variable breezes.

Heavy persistent rain will to move up from the south, bringing possible flooding along with extensive low cloud and mist. Lowest temperatures of 9 to 12 degrees, in light northerly breezes.

Very heavy rain will be slow to clear eastwards, and linger for much of the day, before eventually easing through the night. Cool with highest temperatures of 12 to 15 degrees, in light to moderate northeast winds.

Rain will gradually ease through the night on Friday with clear spells developing. Moderate to fresh northerly winds will be strong along coasts. Lowest temperatures of 9 to 11 degrees.

Saturday will be mostly dry, with a possibility of light rain lingering in eastern and southeastern parts. Sunny spells elsewhere, with the best of the sunshine in the northwest. Highest temperatures of 15 to 17 degrees, with light to moderate northeasterly breezes.

Mostly cloudy overnight on Saturday with scattered showers moving northwards overnight. Lowest temperatures of 9 to 13 degrees with light to moderate easterly breezes.

Sunday will likely be a cloudy day with outbreaks of rain, heaviest and most persistent over the eastern half of the country. Highest temperatures of 16 to 18 degrees in light to moderate easterly breezes.
