Kill’s Emer Fitzpatrick and Ballinagh’s Aisling Smith were prominent for their sides at this stage.

Kill won five consecutive frees in the later stages of the first half with Emer Fitzpatrick converting them excellently.

A super save from Ballinagh goalkeeper Carol McDonnell kept them in contention in the run up to half-time. Just before the break, the spectators were treated to a superb score from Kerrie McQuillan leaving it Kill 0-9 to Ballinagh’s 1-2 at the interval.

Ballinagh returned to the field ready to give their all in the second half with Maguire registering the first score of the half with a long-range free.

Ballinagh pressed hard in the opening minutes with a long ball into the Kill square leaving players scrambling for a ball but it finally came off the hurl of Roisin Martin, hitting the back of the net.

Kill captains Abby and Emer Fitzpatrick with referee John Emo along with Ballinagh joint-captains Reanne Dourneen and Aisling Reilly.

Kill didn’t give up easily and caused lots of problems for Ballinagh with backs Abby Fitzpatrick and Katie Boyle battling to keep ball out and getting it into the forward line. In the 47th minute, club stalwart Dolores Duffy found herself in the perfect spot to hit the back of the net, registering Ballinagh’s third goal of the match.

The strong wind in the second half caused some problems for Kill as they found themselves struggling to get scores on the board with many of them just drifting to the wrong side of the posts.

Emer Fitzpatrick got the last score of the game as she converted a free in the 55th minute of the game, with Ballinagh coming out winners on the day on a scoreline of 3-4 to 0-10.
