Road closed after fatal crash near Clones

Two dead and several reported injured, emergency services at the scene.

Two dead and several people have been injured following a serious traffic accident near Clones in Co Monaghan this evening.

The accident at Leganakelly Cross, north of Clones Town, on the N54 road towards Smithboro occurred at around 6:45pm.

One vehicle is currently at the scene, and gardaí have confirmed two fatalities.

Three others have been taken to hospital, two of whom are understood to be in "critical condition".

The road is currently closed to traffic, and diversions are in place.
