Big week of celebrations as Kingspan Breffni stadium turns 100
A busy weekend on and off the football pitch begins on Friday evening with the Division 3 All-County Football League final between Denn and Drumgoon (Kingspan Breffni, 8.15pm) and the Division 1 semi-final replay between Kingscourt and Ramor (Mullagh, 7.30pm).
Also in action on Friday evening in Cornafean (7.45pm) are Ballinagh and Arva, who face off in a Division 1 relegation play-off.
On Saturday, Cuchulainns and Knockbride clash in the Division 2 league final. While promotion is already secured for both sides, a title would be a big confidence-booster ahead of championship.
Interestingly, if Arva retain their league status, Knockbride would be the second junior team in Division 1, although there is every chance one of the two may win the Junior Championship before the next renewal of the league.
Killygarry, meanwhile, were relegated to Division 2 when they were defeated by Lacken (report next week).
Off the field, the county board have a week-long celebration planned to mark the centenary of the opening of Breffni Park (now Kingspan Breffni).
From Tuesday to Friday, the stadium is open for tours, with traditional music each afternoon and a photographic exhibition.
Among the other highlights are the launch of George Cartwright’s new book about the stadium on Thursday at 8pm (wrongly listed in last week’s Anglo-Celt as taking place last Thursday) as well as underage blitzes, handball, camogie and ladies football, an ecumenical service and a parade through Cavan Town.
