Tenders issued for 45 new homes in Bailieborough

Cavan County Council has tendered for the construction of 45 new social houses at Páirc na Teile, Bailieborough, in a move that represents significant progress in the local authority’s ambitious social housing programme.

The 45 new social houses will consist of four one-bed apartments, 28 two-bed units, 10 three-bed units, two four-bed units, and one five-bed unit, and Hamilton Young Architects are lead designer for the scheme.

During a site visit, where plans for this major development were inspected, Cathaoirleach of Cavan County Council, Cllr Philip Brady said: “I welcome this significant investment in social housing in the county by Cavan County Council. Housing is a significant issue facing society, and I applaud the project team in our housing construction section for their work in bring the project to this advanced stage.”

Cavan County Council Director of Service with responsibility for Housing, Eoin Doyle, said the project was an exemplar of the efforts being made by the local authority to meet its housing delivery targets using a variety of means at its disposal: “Under the Government’s ‘Housing for All’ programme Cavan County Council has committed to delivering 490 new homes in a five year period, and this project represents significant progress in that regard. Through our new build programme, working with approved housing bodies, and through returning vacant properties to the housing stock, Cavan County Council is making great strides in delivering housing for all in this county.”

Construction is expected to commence in October and the scheme is expected to be completed by mid-2025. The total scheme cost of the 45 unit development is currently estimated at approximately €15.6 million.
