New director appointed for Cavan Institute

A new director has been appointed to Cavan Institute following the retirement of Anne Marie Lacey.

Dr Niall McVeigh will commence his role in September 2023, Cavan and Monaghan Education and Training Board (CMETB) confirmed this morning.

In a statement issued to this newspaper, the board said: "With a wealth of experience and a strong commitment to education, Dr McVeigh joins Cavan Institute having held leadership positions within CMETB for several years." He served as principal of Castleblayney College for the past six years and previously in St Bricin’s College, Belturbet, as deputy principal.

Prior to coming to Cavan, Dr McVeigh served as the deputy president of Cistercian College in Roscrea for four years.

An Enniskillen native, Dr McVeigh graduated from St Mary’s University College, Belfast, achieving a Master’s in Education and School Leadership before completing a PHD with NUI Galway in Educational Leadership and Management.

Speaking about his appointment Dr McVeigh said he was looking forward to his new role in Cavan Institute, which had a "proud legacy of academic excellence and a strong commitment to learner success".

He added: "I look forward to meeting the talented team at Cavan Institute so that we can work to build upon the Institute's proud legacy, providing quality teaching and learning, fostering innovation and equipping learners with the skills and knowledge necessary to thrive.

"It is an exciting time for Cavan Institute as it works to develop a new FET College of the Future Campus. I am truly excited about the journey ahead and the opportunity to contribute to the progression of Cavan Institute as a leading provider of further education and training.”
