Medals, bypass talks and welcome developments

The last number of months have proved very important to Ballinagh, which has had its fair share of great successes and sad departures.

Fine Gael Councillor Winston Bennett stated one of the main highlights was the victory of Philip Eoghan (Comerford) at the Special Olympics in Berlin recently.

“I’d like to congratulate Eoghan on bringing home silver and bronze for kayaking in the Special Olympics World Games.

“It was great to see a great turnout in Ballinagh to welcome him home,” says Winston.

Cllr Bennett also congratulated Bowler Angela Cleary from Killeshandra who brought home a bronze medal from the major sporting event, as well as all the Irish team and its helpers.

Aside from this fantastic victory, the Ballinagh man commented on the good news the town received recently.

He referenced the long-awaited opening of council houses located out the Cavan Road, the introduction of electric vehicle charging points in the town, and the Fleming’s Folly Walk and adjoining playground which he says have been “used extensively”.

He also welcomed the news of a picnic area, soon to be introduced to the area.

Cllr Bennett noted how the popular Pauline Brady of Pauline’s Fashion had retired in the previous year.

He says the shop's closure a big miss from the town, but wished her well in retirement.

“I’d like to wish her well”.

However the councillor revealed a new fashion outlet is set to open in the coming months.

Cllr Bennett also welcomed the work being done to bypass the town, deterring lorries from driving through it.

“There's a lot of work being done now with the consultants on getting the right lane for a bypass of Ballinagh. I think it would bring more business to the town if all the lorries weren’t going through it.”

The Ballinagh local representative concluded, asking everyone to support local businesses as much as possible.
