Bailieboro to Virginia traffic being diverted via Mullagh following accident

ROAD CLOSURE Diversions in place

Traffic between Bailieborough and Virginia is now being diverted via Mullagh following a serious collision this morning on the R178. The road is expected to be closed for a number of hours.

The N3 remains closed and all traffic from that route, northbound and southbound, is being diverted via Virginia, Ballyjamesduff, New Inns and vice-versa.

It is expected the N3 will re-open within the next hour.

Gardaí confirmed that they still have officers at the scene.

"As members are still at the scene, no further information is available at this time," a spokesperson said.

Gardaí yesterday appealed for witnesses following a fatal road traffic accident in the Ballyjamesduff area.

The fatal accident involved a car and a lorry and occurred shortly before 5pm on the N3 at New Inns.
