Lidl's plans for new Cavan store appealed to ABP
Plans by Lidl to knock its Cavan Town supermarket and replace it with an entirely new store have been appealed to An Bord Pleanála.
Aiden Smith and others are listed as the appellants to the planning permission granted to the German discount retailer by Cavan County Council.
Lidl has proposed to demolish its existing outlet, which totals 1,596 sqm, and replace it with a bigger 2,560 sqm store with ancillary off-licence.
Council planners gave the green light for the development despite concerns from neighbours over how the development might affect property prices, as well as the impact the new store would have on those living directly opposite.
Also included in the plans was the redevelopment and reconfiguration of the existing site layout, 120 car parking spaces and landscaping. The existing vehicular access point was to be retained but the HGV delivery bay relocated.
The appeal is due to be decided by August 2023.
