Collapsing road bank
A call for “urgent remedial works” on a Mullagh road was made at a recent Ballyjamesduff Municipal District Meeting.
The motion was raised by Cllr Shane P. O’Reilly who requested the council to fix a “collapse of retaining bank” on the Mullagh to Whitegate Road.
He stated that, while the bank looks okay while driving the road in a car, while on a tractor with his friend, he caught sight of the rear of the bank and realised it was collapsing.
“You couldn’t see it from the car,” he says.
Cllr O’Reilly took the opportunity to thank the council staff for previous work they completed on the road.
Senior Executive Engineer John McGahern agreed this was an issue. However he stated there are “similar locations on regional roads” the council must tend to first.
He stated the council would put up road signs prior to the works, to warn motorists of potential dangers.
