Reopening of Ramor Theatre delayed

Meeting took place earlier this week.

The reopening of the Ramor Theatre following major refurbishment will now not go ahead as planned this coming Friday, April 14.

In a statement posted to social media, the Ramor Theatre says the delay in reopening is “due to circumstances beyond our control”.

They state: “All those who were due to attend the Pat & Faye Shortt ‘Well’ show on Friday will be contacted directly by our team over the coming days to organise a full refund.”

The statement concludes: “We apologise for any inconvenience caused”.

It follows a meeting that took place regarding the planned reopening which took place earlier this week.

The theatre was redeveloped in tandem with plans to deliver a new Civic, Cultural, and Library Services Centre incorporating the former Parochial House next door.

Demac Construction Ltd oversaw construction, which sees both buildings now share an extensive foyer to include a new theatre box office area.

The facility was developed thanks to funding of almost €4 million secured through the Department of Rural and Community Development’s Rural Regeneration Development Fund, supplemented by an additional €1.3 million in funding from Cavan County Council.

While the Ramor Theatre is near reopening, with lighting and all other accompaniments installed, elements of the new Civic, Cultural, and Library Services Centre are still being worked on.

Along with the library, once complete the three-storey building will include a digital suite with an interactive tourist information system, while the upstairs of the building is being converted into a multi-use space with meeting rooms and events/exhibition space.

A shared foyer will provide access to the Civic Centre and will link this to the Ramor Theatre.

To the rear of the property a new civic space will open access to the nearby lakeshore, boating marina, Virginia Show Centre, Virginia College, and the recently redeveloped lakeshore park.
