Family of lake victim thank emergency services

Funeral details announced.

The family of a man who lost his life following a tragic accident at Lough Ramor at the weekend have thanked the emergency services who came to his aid.

Cathal Mulvaney (37) of Forest Park, Rathardrum, Virginia, and formerly of Main St. Mullagh, was found “unresponsive” after his body was taken from the water on Sunday morning last, April 9.

In the death notice shared online: “Cathal's partner and family wish to express their heartfelt thanks and appreciation to the Ambulance Personnel, Virginia Fire Service, An Gardaí Siochana, all those who helped at the scene of the accident, and the staff of Cavan General Hospital for their compassion and care.”

Mr Mulvaney has been described in numerous posts shared online following his death as “one of the nicest fellas you could meet” and a “good friend” to all who knew him.

Dozens of messages of sympathy have also been shared with Mr Mulvaney’s bereaved family.

A spokesperson for An Garda Siochana confirmed that officers and other emergency services responded after receiving reports “of an unresponsive male who was just assisted out of the water at Lough Ramor, Virginia, County Cavan”.

They added that the man was subsequently taken to Cavan General Hospital “where he was later pronounced dead”.

Mr Mulvaney, who has been described by those who knew him as “one of the nicest fellas you could meet” and a “good friend”, will repose in The Village Chapel of Rest, Mullagh A82DE28, on Thursday evening from 5pm to 8pm.

He will be laid to rest at the cemetery adjoining Mary Immaculate Church, Virginia, which funeral mass will take place at 11am.

Predeceased by his beloved Mother Patricia and Brother John, his death is deeply regretted by his loving partner, Cassie, his devastated family, father Sean and brothers Peter, Alan and Stephen, Cassie's parents Margaret and Derek, sister in law Laura, Alan's partner Elaine, Cassie's brother Dwane, his adored nieces and nephews Reuben, Anton, Eabha Rose, Johnny and Alexander, aunts, uncles, cousins, his best friend Kevin, relatives, neighbours and his faithful four legged companions.
