Works delayed at dangerous Cashel Cross in Ballinagh
Works at Cashel Cross have been delayed, elected members on the Ballyjamesduff Municipal District were informed at their recent meeting. The works were expected to go out to tender last December but it’s understood consultants on the project encountered unavoidable delays.
Speaking following the MD meeting, John McGahern, Senior Executive Engineer, confirmed to the Celt that the scheme is progressing through detailed design and discussions with affected landowners.
“It’s the TII that’s dealing with it. It’s hoped it will go to tender very shortly. I’d be hoping we see that job completed in the year 2023 and it doesn’t roll on for another period of time because it can be dangerous,” said Cllr Winston Bennett who has been pushing for the works.
Last year, plans were unveiled for the installation of two right-turning lanes and a staggering of the road junctions coming onto the N55 at Cashel Cross. The council was asked to examine road safety solutions in light of a fatal accident there in February 2020.
