Virginia Credit Union (VCU) – Local lending that you can rely on

VCU has been serving the financial needs of the local community for almost 35 years and, during that period, it has grown from strength to strength. While many credit unions throughout the country have merged into larger entities and bank branches have closed their doors, VCU has remained independent and standalone and it is this structure that the Board of VCU believe is the primary reason for the continuing positive performance of the credit union.

VCU’s primary business is the provision of a safe/secure place for its members to place their hard-earned savings and the provision of a wide range of lending products allowing members to borrow for various reasons. However, it is not just as straightforward as the above – VCU strives to be the best in the market at what we do.

Micheal McDermott, CEO of VCU states the following: “Once again, we see Irish credit unions top the poll for best customer experience in this year’s CXi report. This is a huge endorsement of the excellent member experience offered by credit union offices across the country, and through online and digital offerings.

"In a year which has seen Ulster Bank and KBC withdraw from the Irish market, more and more consumers are realising the importance of excellent service from a financial provider with a social ethos who puts their members’ needs at the heart of everything they do, and one which will always be there for them. VCU strive to ensure that the member experience is one that will be remembered and talked about (positively) in the local community and beyond. It is this member experience that results in further business opportunities for VCU.

"We believe in going the extra mile for all our members and whether you are a child lodging your small weekly savings, a borrower with a requirement for a large loan, a borrower with a requirement for a small loan or even a member seeking financial advice, you will be treated in the same exceptional manner by all our staff.” VCU’s membership continues to grow on an annual basis.

“We have a lot of new younger members, not alone joining, but borrowing as well – this bodes well for the future viability of our Credit Union,” reveals Micheal.

He went on to say: “All our loan products are carefully designed in a way that match our borrowers’ needs – our rates are very competitive and members can borrow over a 10-year term (depending on the reason for the loan).”

VCU has seen loan growth over the last 12 months of eight per cent and this has been mainly down to quality loan products at competitive rates and lending decisions being made locally.

So, if you are not yet a member – call and join. If you are a member and require a loan – call and apply, a friendly warm welcome awaits you and a prompt decision will be available on your loan application.
