Folly Rockets complete 10th Croagh Patrick Cycle

The Folly Rockets in Ballinagh line up at the top of the town for one last time for The Anglo-Celt, after successfully completing their 10th successive cycle from Croagh Patrick for deserving charities.History was created in Ballinagh on Saturday night when the amazing Folly Rockets' cyclists came home to a heroes' welcome for the final time when they successfully completed their 10th successive cycle from Croagh Patrick for deserving charities.
One lady who has been there from the outset and right to the end, Ann Marie McPhillips told the Celt she felt "emotional" now that it was all over.
She thanked all those who participated in the cycle over the past decade and for giving of their time and energy so generously.
"People love it but it is hard work and there is a huge commitment from the cyclists. They trained from March, twice a week. This year we went down to Croagh Patrick in June, but the weather was very bad and we could not let the cyclists go ahead with the run on that date. So they have had an extra-long year – it is ironic that we cycled home today during a heatwave, a complete contrast to the cancelled earlier run," remarked Anne Marie.
"We got everyone home safely over those 10 years and never had an accident. It was 10 years of hard work for all of us and, at this stage, we have contributed over €300,000 to Crumlin Hospital and local charities," she said proudly.
It's envisaged a core group of the Folly Rockets will cycle shorter runs in the future for a variety of charities.
