Young crash victim laid to rest in New York
The funeral has taken place in New York of a young man with links to Cavan who tragically died following a car crash earlier this month.
Paul Anthony Fitzpatrick (21) of Yonkers had family living in County Cavan.
He died Sunday morning, July 17, following an incident on the Sprain Brook Parkway in Greenburgh, according to New York State Police.
His funeral mass took place on July 23 at St Barnabas Church.
Back home Killygarry GAA extended sympathy to the Fitzpatrick family.
Both Paul Anthony’s parents are from Cavan. His father Pat is from Killygarry and his mother Catherina a native of Milltown, Belturbet.
Fr Gerry Comiskey, PP in Milltown, speaking at the weekend expressed sympathy to Paul Anthony’s parents and his sisters - Grainne and Niamh - on their tragic loss.
He referred to the fact that Catherina and her three children were “very frequent visitors home” to her mother.
In tributes Paul Anthony was described as a “hard worker” who could fix or drive any bike, car, or truck.
“Paul will be remembered by his beautiful smile and gorgeous green eyes. His first love was his mammy and his second love was cars. He was the twinkle in his dad’s eye and the best gift ever given to his sisters. He would do absolutely anything for his friends.”
