Cavan has much to offer tourists - Argue
Cavan Town will be looking to benefit from an influx of tourists in the coming summer and Cllr Madeleine Argue believes a number of initiatives by the local authority will capitalise on this.
Cllr Argue says there have been a number of local authority success in the last year: “Cavan County Council has done tremendous work for communities across Cavan. We aim to build on that in the town with projects like the Abbeylands Urban Regeneration Cavan Town. Added to this is the Shannon Pot & Burren Phase 2 Fáilte Ireland plans, which will have a tremendous impact on this area. They are initiatives that will be of great benefit to the local communities.”
The Fine Gael elected representative says the Cavan Townhall Destination and outdoor performance project is another one that enhances the county town: “The Townhall is a wonderful asset. It brings people into the town, which is good for a number of businesses. The programmes of events they stage are of the highest standards.”
The local authority members says the town's best side was on display recently as the Cavan Arts Festival utilised The Townhall, Con Smith Park and other landmarks around the town at the end of May. The festival featured live music, theatre, art events and installations, and the Big Top Tent in the heart of Cavan Town.
“It was a wonderful event for the town and I have to congratulate the committee that put the programme together,” Cllr Argue said.
She was particularly delighted with one undertaking by the local authority: “I am very proud to be part of the council that recognised the work of INMO members during the pandemic. We awarded a civic reception in the courthouse to the nurses, and all frontline staff, for their contributions during that difficult time.”
She says that recognition was timely because it also recognised the Cavan woman elected First Vice-President of the INMO, Mary Tully. Mary is wife of Senator Joe O'Reilly.
Cllr Argue wished all her constituents the best over the summer.
