Lynch goal helps Cavan overcome Sligo
Cavan continue on their march towards promotion to Division 3 courtesy of a tricky win away in Sligo.
At half time it didn't look as if the Cavan's search for two points would be quite so straight forward as the home team led 0-06 to 0-02 at the break. Indeed it may have been a different story had Sligo kept 15 players on the pitch.
However a strong second half performance - aided by a straight red card for Sligo's David Quinn soon after the restart - saw Cavan finally ease ahead. It was a good goal from Paddy Lynch in the 27th minute that took the lead for Cavan, and from then on, with a numerical advantage, they never looked like losing.
It took 18 minutes for Gearoid McKiernan to register Cavan's first point of the game, with Ray Galligan hitting a free on 22 minutes to claim the Blues' only other point of a disappointing half.
The second half also saw black cards for Cavan's Michael Argue and Sligo's Sean Carrabine.
Cavan's main attacking threats were McKiernan and Lynch, who was in fine form. Caoimhin O'Reilly and Oisin Kiernan also register points, with a brace from Gerard Smith ending the scoring.
