Flooding fears as rain continues
The county remains on high alert for flooding as heavy rain continues in the wake of three storm in the past week starting with Dudley.
Members attached to brigades across County Cavan attended several incidents over the weekend associated with Storm Eunice and Storm Franklin.
As Met Éireann issued successive weather warnings, as wind and rain battered the country, the brigades in Cavan were on high alert.
A spokesperson confirmed that the majority of incidents related to "fallen trees and power lines on roadways, with some flooding reported in Killeshandra also".
The west Cavan area appeared the worst impacted. On Monday, fallen tree(s) caused problems on the Ballinamore Road in Dowra, the N87 at Derryginney in Ballyconnell; and at Corrard in Dowra.
Crews were also busy on Sunday night with a fallen tree on the R199 at Clontygrigny in the Ballyconnell area and at Gowna Church where the Cavan Town brigade dealt with downed trees.
Earlier in the day trees had also caused a safety hazard at Maghera-Ryefield Road, again on the Ballinamore Road and at Farnham in Cavan; while flooding on the Cavan Road in Killeshandra also proved problematic.
Friday morning, the Kingscourt Brigade attended to a fallen tree in Shercock.
A spokesperson added: "Cavan County Fire Service is on call 24 hours a day, seven days a week to respond to incidents including severe weather events. Additionally, Cavan County Council’s severe weather duty engineers are constantly tracking weather patterns through engagement with Met Éireann, the National Directorate for Fire and Emergency Management's Crisis Management Team, and our own Vaisala monitoring system and weather stations, and staff are mobilised accordingly."
In the event of emergency, members of the public are urged to call 112 or 999. Cavan County Council’s out-of-hours number is 087-611 8116.
Power outages were also reported across the county, again with the west worst affected. ESB crews worked quickly to restore services.
