Paul Flynn is set to become a deacon tonight.

Cavan man to be ordained a deacon this evening

A Cavan father of four will this evening be ordained as a deacon in Enniskillen.

Paul Flynn will become a deacon of the Diocese of Clogher at a special ceremony at 7pm, which is the Feast of the Presentation of the Lord.

Bishop of Clogher Larry Duffy will be the ordaining prelate and chief celebrant for the occasion, and Bishop-Emeritus of Kilmore Leo O'Reilly, will also attend while Very Rev Dean Kenny Hall, Church of Ireland Dean of Clogher has been invited as a special guest.

The ordination follows the completion by Paul of four years of discernment and formation. The ceremony can be viewed online here.

Paul's family will be heavily involved in the occasion as his father-in-law Peter Howard will be one of the readers, while in the vesting of the new Deacon his stole will be provided by his wife Angie Flynn while the dalmatic will be brought by his father, Dermot Flynn.

Paul is an acclaimed musician, and as such the liturgical music will form an important part of the ceremony, under the direction of Sharon Kelly.

The Litany Cantor is Revd Canon Paul Arbuthnot with St Michael's Parish choirs and organists Caecilia Bastian & Jonathan Beaty providing the music. Guest organist is Simon Harden of TU Dublin Conservatoire.

Paul is from Lucan, Co. Dublin and it was during his education at St Mary’s Boys National School in Lucan that he was introduced to liturgical music. Having attended Vincent’s College, Castleknock he progressed to Trinity College Dublin where he studied music, and was awarded a BA and M. Litt.

While studying at Trinity College, Paul met Angela. They got married in the College Chapel in 2003. They have four children, Aisling, Peter, Leo, and Felicity, and they all now live in the parish of Urney and Annageliffe, Cavan Town.

Paul has also worked in financial services, starting out in Thomas Cooks. He is also a qualified Music and Religion teacher and has taught at primary, post-primary and third levels, and is currently the chaplain to Mount Lourdes Grammar School, Enniskillen. Additionally, Paul is the Music Director of the 10.30am Sunday choir. He has been working in St Michael’s in this position since 2013.
