Man questioned over church cash theft
File currently being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.
Gardaí in Monaghan say they have “identified a suspect” and have since interviewed the person in relation to alleged theft of money from a local church.
Last week gardaí appealed to the public for information, or even for the person behind the theft to return what was described as a “substantial sum of cash” taken from St. Joseph Church on Park Street in Monaghan Town on Sunday afternoon, January 9.
The alleged theft occurred between the hours of 12 noon and 3.30pm.
This morning, gardaí updated their earlier post on social media to say: “The Gardai in Monaghan have identified a suspect in this matter. The male suspect has been interviewed and a file is currently being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.”
