New judge takes to bench
The county’s new district court judge began hearing cases today (Thursday), January 6.
Judge Raymond Finnegan was appointed to District Number 5 following the sudden death of Judge Denis McLoughlin in September.
The Kells native was appointed a judge in May 2021, before being assigned to courts in Donegal in the following months.
He was confirmed as the new judge, covering both Cavan and Monaghan, in late November. The cabinet approved the move.
District court sittings have been presided over by “movable” judges since the death of Judge McLoughlin.
Magheracloone native Judge Gerry Jones, Judge Cormac Dunne from Cavan and Judge Alan Mitchell from Longford have all occupied the bench in Cavan over the period.
