€10,000 target for chilly December fundraiser
It's all in the name of suicide prevention.
It’s hoped €10,000 can be raised for suicide prevention in the north west with a Sligo man taking to the cold waters of local rivers and lakes to fundraise.
The Dip a Day fundraiser, taking place throughout December, hopes to hit that target for the much needed services.
Mark Elliott from Sligo is getting into the chilly open waters around Sligo and Leitrim in just a pair of shorts and a swim hat, with many people joining him each day.
He hopes to raise needed funds for the North West STOP Suicide Prevention service.
It works to provide counselling to those who are feeling suicidal or have been bereaved by suicide.
630 counselling sessions were funded across the north west In the first 6 months of 2021 and counsellors are available in Sligo, Leitrim, Mayo, West Cavan, Donegal, Roscommon and Longford.
