Gyproc announces scholarship for Kingscourt students
Gyproc has announced a college scholarship programme for local students.
It’s the first programme of its type from the company, which aims to help, encourage and support students entering third-level education in Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths.
It’s hoped it will encourage greater diversity and inclusion in the construction and manufacturing sectors. This year’s programme is open to young female student completing their leaving certificate and attending Coláiste Dún an Rí in Kingscourt.
Two scholarships will be awarded to the successful candidates. It will cover their college fees, as well as provide them with mentoring support and a graduate programme opportunity in the company.
Padraig Barry, Managing Director of Gyproc says the company hopes it “will encourage more women to take up future careers in the likes of engineering and manufacturing operations. We aim to foster greater inclusion and diversity in the construction & manufacturing industries and this programme is one of many initiatives we are supporting to advance this agenda”.

School Principal Fergal Boyle says the programme “gives meaningful support to students in our community and will encourage more women to pursue careers in STEM subjects. I would like to thank Gyproc, Padraig Barry, and Paul Whelan, for their generous support of our students in Coláiste Dún an Rí”.
A large employer in the area, Gyproc is well-known for its plaster and plasterboard products. It operates a major gypsum mine in the Magheracloone area.
