Water savings on horizon for Billis and Stragelliff
The project due to be completed by early next year
A 1.8km stretch of old water mains will be replaced with modern pipework connecting homes in Billis and Stragelliff areas near Cavan Town, with the upgrade work due to get start shortly.
Irish Water, in partnership with Cavan County Council, will begin work on site in the coming days.
The works will take place on the L-2035-0 from its junction with L-2013-0 / L-6038-0 / L-6038-1 (Shankill Crossroads) in the townland of Shankill Upper to its junction with L6035-0 / L-60362-0 in the townland of Billis.
The project due to be completed by early next year.
The new pipes will not only reduce disruptions to customers from bursts and outages, but it will reduce the amount of clean water lost underground.
Outlining the benefits of the works, Declan Cawley, Networks Regional Lead with Irish Water, said: “These essential works will strengthen and reinforce the water network in these local communities. There will be an immediate positive impact to supply for customers”.
In order to deliver this essential upgrade, there may be short term interruptions to the water supply in the area and traffic management will be in place, say Irish Water.
However, the project team will ensure that customers are given a minimum of 48 hours’ notice prior to any planned water interruptions and areas of work will be limited to short distance to minimise impact.
Residents have been notified directly but Irish Water’s customer care helpline is open 24/7 on 1800 278 278 and customers can also contact us on Twitter @IWCare with any queries.
