Virginia manhole issues raised
Noisy and dangerous manholes have been highlighted.
Irish Water and Eir have been contacted after concerns were raised about the state of manholes on the Ballyjamesduff road out of Virginia.
The issue was raised at the regular Ballyjamesduff Municipal District meeting by local Councillor TP O’Reilly (FG) today.
He described some of the manholes as being “like potholes” because they have sunk below the road’s level.
Councillor Shane P O’Reilly also expressed concern about the noise some of the manholes make as they are driven over, saying there was one in particular that “was like hitting a drum”.
MD Senior Executive Engineer John McGahern said he was aware of the issue but said the manholes are the responsibility of Irish Water and Eir and not the Council’s.
He said both had been contacted in recent weeks and again this morning but no response had been forthcoming by the time of the meeting.
Cllr TP O’Reilly raised concern about the difficulty he and other councillors often face in getting a response from Irish Water on issues locally.
“I can never get a response anyway”, he said but he’s hopeful of getting a resolution to the issue.Cavan
