New Local Link routes blocked by lack of funding

The lack of funding for Local Link services has been criticised.

TD Pauline Tully (SF) has hit out at the lack of commitment to increase funding to allow for the extension of services in Cavan.

She says while an excellent service is provided locally, there are large swathes of the county that are not served.

“I have had numerous queries that have come into my office regarding this, from different parts of Cavan, such as Ballyjamesduff, Bailieborough and Milltown. For instance, currently there is no local link service for students living in Ballyjamesduff and studying in Cavan Institute”, she told the Celt.

Deputy Tully says while the Local Link Manager for Cavan and Monaghan Padraic Smith would like to increase coverage in the area, he is constrained by the funding he receives.

She’s criticised the National Transport Authority (NTA), which has overall responsibility for the provision of transport services.

A response from the NTA was described as “disappointingly vague”, with plans for a public consultation this year but no commitments on funding.
