McCabe History Recorded Just in time for Christmas!
If you are looking for a Christmas present for the McCabe in your life, fear not, we have just the thing for you.
During the recent lockdown, the Clan McCabe Society seized the opportunity to put together a comprehensive history of the family name, from the earliest times up to the 20th century.
The book, entitled ‘A History of the McCabes’, brings together, for the first time, all the information that they have gathered, over the years, about the history and heritage of those bearing the McCabe name around the world throughout the ages.
It includes specific chapters on: The Early origins of the name, their warrior history as “Gallowglass” in the Middle Ages, the fate of the McCabes in Ireland under Tudor Rule, the fortunes of the clan in the 17th century (and their ancestral castle in Cavan), and McCabes in the 18th, 19th and 20th centuries.
The book also has separate chapters on McCabe soldiers, McCabe clergymen, Famous McCabes, McCabes overseas, and various interesting songs and stories relating to McCabes.
It is also illustrated with over 20 photographs of McCabe history, places and memorabilia.
It is available, priced at €15, from the following outlets: Easons, Cavan & Monaghan; Hannigans in Cootehill; Daybreak, Shercock; Pat’s Shop, Kingscourt; Keegans in Carrickmacross; Smyths in Ballybay; Matthews in Clones; Fitzsimons’ newsagents and Supervalu, Virginia.
Or it can be posted to you for €20 (which includes postage to anywhere in Ireland) by contacting the honorary secretary, Brian McCabe, at brianfranas.mccabe@gmail.com
The publication would not have been possible without the support of the Department of Rural & Community Development, Cavan County Council, Cavan Local Community Development Committee, Breffni Integrated CLG, Cavan LEADER and the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development: Europe investing in Rural Areas.
