Aaron Brady sentencing to take place tomorrow

Brady was convicted by a 11 to one majority jury verdict on August 11.

Aaron Brady, the Armagh man found guilty of the capital murder of Detective Garda Adrian Donohoe will be sentenced tomorrow (Wednesday) when he faces a mandatory term for capital murder of life imprisonment with a minimum time served of 40 years.

Brady was convicted by a 11 to one majority jury verdict on August 11.

The 29-year-old with a last address at New Road, Crossmaglen, Co Armagh was also convicted of involvement in the robbery of €7,000 at Lordship Credit Union in Bellurgen, Co Louth on January 25, 2013.

Separately, last week four persons arrested in relation to allegations of witness intimidation, perverting the course of justice and the unlawful use of mobile phones in the prison environment, in connection with the recent criminal trial of Brady have all since been “released without charge”.

“A file will be prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions,” gardaí confirmed, after officers attached to the Garda National Bureau of Criminal Investigation (GNBCI) arrested the four people last week, Thursday, October 8.

The GNBCI officer are investigating allegations of witness intimidation, perverting the course of justice and the unlawful use of mobile phones in the prison environment, related to the recent criminal trial of DPP versus Brady.

Those arrested were detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984 in Mountjoy, Ballymun, Bridewell and Raheny Garda Stations respectively, for the proper investigation of the offences concerned.

“Investigations are ongoing.”
