Over €1m for deep retrofit projects in Cavan
The 22 houses will have roof, wall and floor insulation applied, air to water heat pump with fully integrated.
Some 22 homes in Co Cavan are set to benefit from a €2 million plus deep retrofit project.
It follows a grant of €1,003,303 million under the Community Energy Grant Scheme, made available through the SEAI, by the Department of Communications, Climate Action and Environment.
The 22 houses will have roof, wall and floor insulation applied, air to water heat pump with fully integrated
heating controls with remote access installed, replacement windows and doors added, along with various other upgrades.
Several local companies stand to benefit too- Kore Insulation in Kilnaleck, Ice Cream Treats in Cavan Town, and Reilly Brothers of Kingscoourt- while council street lighting in some parts of the county will also be improved to more energy efficent systems.
In total, the projected energy savings will mount to 1,410,853kWh.
Separately, Cavan Box in Ballyjamesduff is one of more than two dozen businesses to benefit from a deep retrofit being carried out alongside eight other counties, through a grant worth €1,385,746, part of a €3.6m project aimed at saving 7,032,161kWh.
The improvements include lighting upgrades, roof and wall insulation, heat pump upgrades, among others.
Minister Eamon Ryan welcomed the funding, which covers 39 community projects nationally, with €28 million in grants to boost the scheme.
He says the projects will deliver significant employment benefits locally and nationally.
The grant offers include €4.3 million specifically for projects delivering aggregated home retrofit upgrades. There are 14 such projects comprising 348 homes.
“Through this scheme, the Government is helping to deliver three important and very beneficial outcomes. We are supporting people to improve their homes and buildings so they will be more comfortable and waste less energy,” Minister Ryan said. “We are expanding retrofit work, creating new green sustainable jobs in communities across Ireland and helping to grow companies. We are also cutting emissions thereby delivering a better environment for all of us.”
In 2018 Cavan's Kore Insulation won the Energy Efficiency Award at the Property Industry Excellence Awards.
KORE won the award for their participation in the 2017 Better Energy Community scheme, which helped promote energy efficiency and grants available to residents, businesses and community organisations in the Cavan area.
KORE, with funding from SEAI upgraded 11 community-owned vacant apartments in Belturbet, upgrading them to a Building Energy Rating of between B1 and A2. Nine additional homes in the local community received deep retrofit works, achieving energy ratings as high as A1.
Two additional community organisations received energy efficiency upgrades as part of this project, including Ramor G.F.C. and Killinkere G.F.C. Measures included LED lighting upgrades, air source heat pumps for domestic hot water and a 12m2 thermal array with an existing gas boiler back up. Energy credits that were saved during the commercial upgrades were donated to the community organisations to help reduce costs – a driving factor to participation in this scheme. Local residents and visitors to the area will now enjoy better lighting at night while on the pitch, while the community organisation will see energy savings on an on-going basis.
