Jigs, reels and recitations in Killeshandra
CULTURE NIGHT REVIEW: CCÉ event showcases local trad talent
A toe-tapping session was provided by the uber-talented Killeshandra Comhaltas Ceoltóiri Éireann. The seven strong junior group boasts a trio of banjo players, fiddle player, a button accordion player, a tin whistle player and flautist.
Despite their youth, they must have been playing together for many years as they melded together perfectly.
"No pressure," someone remarked when it was the turn of the senior CCE. Who were they kidding? The eight strong outfit played with the freedom as if simply in the Loughboawn of a Sunday night.
A dash of variety was added with a recitation of a comical verse by local man Oliver McSherry. It's a sideways celebration of how wakes of olden times (pre-March 2020) invariably remembered the deceased in glowing terms.
