Over €120k for community centres in Cavan
Facilities play vital role across Ireland - Humphreys
Over €120,000 has been approved to fund community centres and facilities in County Cavan.
The funding will be provided under the Community Enhancement Programme, which is administered by the Department of Rural and Community Development.
It has been confirmed this morning by Minister Heather Humphreys.
Overall, €120,039 will be provided to Cavan County Council and will go towards the maintenance, improvement and upkeep of community centres and other buildings.
Commenting on the news, Minister Humphreys said: “I’m delighted that we are moving quickly to invest in community centres, which are more important than ever in light of the Covid-19 pandemic."
Library funding
Separately, Ms Humphreys has also approved €2.8m in funding for library facilities across the country.
“We have in excess of 300 libraries across the country and this funding will support local authorities to transform many of their existing library buildings into modern, welcoming spaces that will leave a positive legacy for years to come,” the Cavan Monaghan Fine Gael TD said.
“It will also allow libraries to be adapted to meet social distancing requirement and to provide additional remote working facilities. Libraries provide a broad range of important services for their communities and it is imperative that they be well maintained to ensure that people not only wish to utilise the service but also view the library as a modern, well equipped facility.”
Funding will be provided to upgrade facilities and technologies in libraries and make the buildings more sustainable and energy efficient.
In concluding, the Minister thanked local authority and library staff “for their continued energy and commitment, which has been especially evident during the past few months, and is key to the success of our public library service".
