Twenty new jobs for Carrickmacross as Aldi opens new store

Aldi Stores (Ireland) today opened its first County Monaghan store, located on Riverside Road, Carrickmacross, creating 20 new jobs.

Bringing the total number of Aldi stores in Ireland to 108, the opening of the new store means Aldi now has a presence in every county in the Republic of Ireland.

Commenting, Donald Mackay, regional managing director Aldi said: “We are delighted to reach the milestone of operating a store in each of the 26 counties. Aldi has consistently been the fastest growing supermarket in the country for the past six years. Each week, more and more Irish families are visiting our stores, swapping their weekly shop to our award winning range of own-brand groceries and making huge savings on their weekly shopping bill.”

To celebrate the opening of the new store, Aldi’s “Taste Truck” rolled into Carrickmacross as customers were served up with free tasty breakfast treats. Each breakfast was prepared using products from Aldi’s broad breakfast range, which are sourced from some of Aldi’s many Irish suppliers.

A day filled with family fun and festivities, iRADIO’s iTEAM were also on site with plenty of games and balloons for the kids.

Speaking at the store opening, Bernard Clarke, Manager of Aldi’s new Carrickmacross store said: “Buying fresh, quality Irish foods in Monaghan just got easier thanks to the opening of our new Aldi store. Each Aldi store we have opened so far has been a fantastic success and we are looking forward to serving the local community.”

A proud supporter of Irish producers, Aldi has tripled its annual spend on Irish products over the past five years, helping maintain over 22,000 jobs across the Irish food industry. Since 2008 Aldi has almost doubled the number of Irish suppliers it works with. Over 50% of Aldi’s supplier spend is with Irish suppliers, producers and manufacturers. All of Aldi’s fresh meats, fresh poultry, eggs, bread, flour, and many of its teas, coffees, soft drinks, waters and snacks come from leading Irish suppliers.

Suppliers from the local area include Castleblayney’s IGWT Poultry Service Ltd., which supplies Aldi’s 100% Irish Bord Bia Quality Assured range of fresh turkeys, and Annalitten Foods Ltd. and Greenfield Foods Ltd., based in Castleblayney and Smithboro respectively, which both supply Aldi with Irish eggs.

Town of Monaghan Co-Op, which produces a number of Aldi’s delicious yogurts, was this week unveiled as Aldi’s third Irish milk supplier. The co-op will be supplying nine Aldi stores initially in the North East of the country, with 2 and 3 litre 100% Republic of Ireland farmed milk carrying the National Dairy Council logo (NDC) to Aldi under Aldi’s Clonbawn brand.
