GE2016 Profile: Brendan Smith TD (FF)
Occupation: Public Representative
Marital Status: Married
Age: 59
Priorities:
My priorities as a TD have been focused on the need to create the fairest society possible. I have been a long-standing, vocal advocate for fairness for all and particularly the need to support the less well off. We need an Ireland which serves all its people.
• A health system that delivers for all
• Protecting families in home mortgage difficulties, supports to reduce childcare costs, increased investment in education and disability services
• Reversing cuts in supports for older people and carers, improve pension payments, a meaningful social housing programme
• Increased resources for Gardaí to ensure better safety for families and communities
• Support rural communities, improved farm schemes, increased supports for farmers, reverse cuts in roads funding
• Provision of high speed broadband/ adequate mobile phone coverage to facilitate job creation, better support for small/medium enterprises
This Fine Gael/Labour government has deprived Rural Ireland of the resources it needs and that is very evident in Cavan-Monaghan. The last 4 years have seen cuts in supports for the most vulnerable in our society. These cuts are completely unacceptable.
If re-elected, I will continue to be an experienced, strong, and committed voice for all in our constituency.
