Storm Brendan is set to hit Cavan from 8am this morning.

Weather warning for Cavan upgraded to Status Orange

Cavan and Monaghan's residents are bracing themselves for Storm Brendan to hit after Met Éireann updated today's wind warning for the county to Orange.

Southerly winds are expected to reach mean speeds of 50 to 70 km/h with gusts of 100 to 120 km/h, higher in exposed areas. The weather warning for Cavan and Monaghan lasts from 8am-3pm today.

Originally the weather warning for County Cavan had been for a Status Yellow storm but last night the weather service upgraded the warning to Orange.

"Storm Brendan will bring extreme winds and heavy rain on Monday," advises Met Éireann. "Status Orange weather warnings in force for all counties with status Red warnings in operation for marine areas. Winds may reach stronger levels locally and for limited time periods."

This means that the conditions are dangerous and may pose a threat to life and property.

The Road Safety Authority (RSA), is asking road users to exercise caution while using the roads today due to storm Brendan.
