Works continue to locate burst water main in Mullagh
Water supply in the Mullagh area continues to be impacted as a result of a burst to a water main.
Crews are continuing their efforts to find the leak but it is “proving difficult”, a spokesperson for Irish Water informed The Anglo-Celt this morning.
It had been envisaged that the issue, which was first identified yesterday morning (Thursday, may 28) could have been fixed by later that same evening.
But it is now hoped repairs will be completed by 8pm today, Friday, May 29.
Even then some customers may not receive a full water supply for a further two to three hours while water returns to the network.
Areas affected by the outage include the Lisnahederna, Crossbane, Killiter, Mullagh Village and surrounding areas.
Alternative water supplies are available at Crossreagh National School and Mullagh Heritage Centre.
“While Irish Water makes every effort to ensure that the alternative drinking water supply provided including the tanker/bowser and dispensing tap are adequately disinfected, as a precautionary measure anyone who obtains water from the alternative supply for consumption is advised to boil the water before use. Customers using the alternative water supplies are also asked to adhere to social distancing guidelines of two metres as marked out at the tankers,” the spokesperson added.
Irish Water would also like to remind people to follow the HSE COVID-19 advice and ensure frequent handwashing.
“Irish Water is working at this time, with our Local Authority partners, contractors and others to safeguard the health and well-being of both staff and the public and to ensure the continuity of critical drinking water and wastewater services.”
