VIDEO: A flavour of Kingscourt St Patrick's Day Parade

Music from an array of bands enlivened the still air with a festive atmosphere as the sunshine glistened on a succession of colourful floats for the 46th annual parade in Kingscourt. 

It was a special occasion for the Kingscourt Brass and Reed Band, who are celebrating their 100th anniversary this year. They were joined in entertaining the large crowds by the Steadfast Brass Band from Carrickmacross and the Corduff Pipe Band.
The marvelous display offered a vibrant trip through all aspects of life in the region: the community at work and play were showcased in lavishly decorated floats and vintage vehicles. The new principal of Dun A Rí College had the honour of being the Grand Marshal.
Youth activities and sporting prowess featured in many floats and on foot. St Joseph’s National School who won the best float on foot got the message across that it is ‘Cool to be Active’.
Laurel and Hardy also made a fun appearance and dancing performances impressed those on the reviewing stand. The industrial and business sector showcased their wares with clever creativity. Moynalty Steam Threshing also caught eye with their innovative vintage exhibition and Frazer’s Store grabbed the entertainment factor to the lively YMCA tune.
Cllr Clifford Kelly, chairman of the Community Development Association was delighted with the huge crowds and number of floats and activities on foot. He thanked all the stewards who did such a wonderful job on the day and all who participated in the parade with such energy and creativity.
