Shercock water restrictions lifted

 

Irish Water and Cavan County Council confirm that the 'Do Not Drink' and 'Do Not Wash' water restrictions have been lifted on the Shercock Public Water Supply.

The restrictions were placed on users attached to the Dhuish Group Water Scheme in Co Cavan, following consultation with the HSE, due to increased chlorine levels in the water supply earlier this week, May 21.

Irish Water issued a statement this afternoon stating: “Customers can now resume normal use of the water supply for drinking, food preparation, brushing teeth and washing.”

Irish Water and Cavan County Council further acknowledge the “patience, cooperation and assistance” of the general public during the period of the drinking water restriction “and greatly regrets any inconvenience caused to householders, the farming and business community”.

At the time water users were told that all drinks, foods, ice cubes and baby foods which contain water from the network should be discarded.
In the interest of public health, it was advised that all users, both domestic and commercial, on the affected scheme should not use tap water until further notice except for flushing of toilets and flushing of internal house plumbing systems.

Tankered water was made be available at The Fairgreen, Shercock (junction of Main Street and Carrickmacross Road) and The Bring Centre, (bottle bank), Cootehill Road, Shercock.

Leaflets advising customers of the Do Not Drink and Do Not Wash notice were also hand delivered to properties in the impacted area by Cavan County Council staff.
The latest statement said: “Irish Water and Cavan County Council apologise for the inconvenience caused by this restriction and thanks customers for their patience while both organisations liaised with the HSE to remove the notice as quickly as possible.”
