Proposed changes to Cavan to Dublin bus services

Bus Éireann is considering changes to services on its Cavan routes to Dublin with a doubling of services from Mullagh and Bailieborough to the capital city among the proposals, writes Ultan Sherry.

A bus inspector has told the Celt this week that it’s likely there will be some changes made to bus services “in the coming weeks”.
Though nothing has been officially implemented yet, the changes are understood to include doubling the number of journeys between Mullagh and Bailieboro to Dublin to six journeys a day each way.
Other mooted changes include the re-numbering of the 109 service from Cavan to Dublin as the 109X, classifying it as an express route.
Proposed departures are every hour from 04:45 to 21:45 daily, including Sundays. Return services from Dublin Busáras will be also hourly from 06.15 to 23.15.
It’s expected though that some buses will still serve Navan and that all will still call at Virginia.

“These are the proposed changes but nothing is in concrete yet,” the inspector told the Celt. “I haven’t received an implementation date yet. That may still be a few weeks away,” he continued.
The expected changes are a result of public consultation undertaken in early 2015 as part of an ongoing review of services on the M3 corridor.
The proposed changes have been submitted to the National Transport Authority (NTA) for discussion.
A statement from Bus Éireann said: “No changes will be implemented until approved by the Authority. Once approved, customers will be notified a minimum of 10 days prior to any changes to our services on this corridor.”
The company has published proposed timetables on its website and welcomes further feedback to feedback@buseireann.ie
