Met Éireann issue snow-ice warning for Cavan

Met Éireann has issued a status yellow snow-ice warning for Cavan and 9 counties.

The warning is in place for Cavan, Galway, Leitrim, Mayo, Roscommon, Sligo, Monaghan, Donegal, Longford and Louth. The weather alert was issued at 11:00am on 1 April, and comes into effect at 12.01am on Tuesday. It is valid until 12:00pm on 3 April.

According to the weather service tonight the showers will be heaviest and most frequent across northern and western areas, with some hail and scattered thunderstorms. Wintry falls of sleet and snow are likely too, mainly over Ulster and parts of Connacht, but some elsewhere towards dawn also. Lowest temperatures -1 to +3 C., with widespread sharp frost and icy patches. Northwest winds will freshen also increasing strong and gusty on Atlantic coasts.

Tomorrow [Tuesday] will continue cold and blustery with sunny spells and showers. The showers will be widespread and often heavy, with occasional falls of hail, but also some sleet and snow in the morning. Snow is likely at lower levels in more northern and northwestern areas, but more likely to be on higher elevations elsewhere. A continuing risk of thunder. Top temperatures of 5 to 8 C., in fresh gusty northwest winds.
