The Cedar Rooms
Farnham Estate Spa & Golf Resort has almost completed the latest €2,350,000 phase of an ongoing investment in the property, with the addition of a brand new 135-seater restaurant - the Cedar Rooms – opened this month and a modern new Golf Clubhouse scheduled to open in December.
The Cedar Rooms Restaurant is located in an historic stone building attached to the main hotel. The building was originally occupied by the estate managers, who looked after the land, including the extensive forestry, over its 400-year history. It has now been carefully restored and adapted for its new use.
The restaurant is named after one of the oldest trees on the estate, the magnificent ‘Cedar of Lebanon’ tree planted on the Farnham Lawn which is circa 300 years old. The Cedar Rooms comprises 135 seats serving the finest Irish produce in a relaxed and elegant setting, complete with a luxurious lounge area for pre-dinner cocktails overlooking an internal courtyard.
Great effort has been made to restore and retain the original brick and stone interiors making reference to the former uses and importance of this historic building. This romantic setting, blending the historical elegance of the building with a modern interior, has the perfect combination for an exciting and unique new dining experience. The existing rooms have been retained and enhanced to give the diner a sense of intimacy. The restored interior is complemented by a new stylish and contemporary décor that has been carefully detailed with accent custom furniture in warm shades of velvet combined with an exciting selection of Irish art.
The restaurant has been designed by award winning Irish architects and interior designers Cantrell & Crowley, whose previous work includes The Shelbourne and The Merrion Hotels. This new phase of investment at the resort is being built by local contractors, Adston Construction, based in Belturbet, Co. Cavan.
The new Golf Clubhouse, which is due to open in December, has been designed with a contemporary form using traditional materials to sit discretely into the protected landscape of the estate, and is conveniently located adjacent to the 18th green.
The owners of Farnham Estate Spa & Golf Resort, SCIF Hotels Limited Partnership (SCIF), purchased the estate in October 2016. Since the acquisition, SCIF has invested €6 million in the hotel and grounds, and this latest phase of planned investment totals €2.35 million.
