The third week of the Winter League again brought with it record scores. Many thought that Michael Hardagon's 39 points of Week 2 wouldn't be equalled for a while, but Eugene Corrigan had other ideas. Eugene, the captain of Team 4, again scored 39 points. In second place came fellow team member Roly Curran with 36, ensuring that their team would be the highest scoring of the week. Fran Joe Reid was third with 35 points.
Teddy Henderson was the winner of the first Turkey competition of the season with a fine return of 38 points, followed by Brendan Cox. Week 2 of the Turkey competition saw Tommy O'Connor claim first place with a nett 51, 5 under par for the 14 holes, with Gaby Fee runner-up with a nett 54.

Recently the I.L.G.U. held a successful scatter day at St Margaret's for girls under 13. Over seventy girls attended of which three were from the Juvenile Club in Mannan Castle. They were Claragh Califf, Dairine Carragher and her sister Aoife.
Ten girls were chosen to receive training during the winter and we are extremely proud to say that the Carragher sisters are amongst these ten. Well done girls and congratulations.
No doubt we will be playing against you soon in the weekly competitions and you will be able to pass on some tips. Finally a great idea for a Christmas present for your loved ones - the special offers that have been advertised in the Clubhouse recently have attracted a lot of interest and are definitely great value. There are two separate packages; the Members package includes two 30 minute golf lessons from a PGA professional, 12 tokens for our driving range and 12 Srixon golf balls with the Mannan logo, all this is worth €140 but can be bought for €100. The Non-members package includes two 30 minute group lessons from a PGA professional, 4 Green Fees, 12 tokens for our driving range and the cost of this package is _125 and is redeemable against the subscription of a new member joining Mannan in 2008. This will definitely save a lot of head scratching over the next few months. All enquiries to the Clubhouse, 042 9663308.
Clones
Clones Golf Club's Captains' night last Saturday was a huge success with over 200 people attending the function in the clubhouse. It's sometime since the Captains' night was held on home soil and it proved to be very popular with the members and visitors alike. The sumptuous supper catered by Maggie's kitchen was smoothly served in both the marquee and the clubhouse itself and everyone agreed the staff, particularly the waiting staff did a great job of getting everyone fed and watered. After the speeches, toasts welcoming visiting guests and Captains and presentations of matchplay cups and prizes, the gathered crowd enjoyed the rest of the evening dancing, chatting and having a good time. Particular congratulations go to proud grandmother Jo Clarke (she wouldn't reveal her age!) who has been a member for over 42 years and was so delighted to collect a prize on such an important night in the golfing calendar. She spoke on behalf of herself and son Paddy who was away for his stag party.
Captain Mr. Pat Connolly and Lady Captain Mrs. Eileen Kerr would like to thank everyone for all their hard work in making the night such a huge success. Obviously there are too many people to single out but praise has to be given to Francie Lynch and his team who must have worked well into the night on Friday to complete the transformation of the ladies locker room, it is fabulous well done lads!
Ladies
The last matchplay trophy was decided last week between Ann Keating and Vera Tighe. Congratulations go to Vera who clinched the victory on the 20th hole. Vera rather sportingly admitted that Ann had been the better player on the day and that she should have won on the 18th however nerves must have got the better of Ann as she missed a simple putt to send them both onto the 19th. Commiserations Ann and congratulations Vera who has had a great year with a number of notable victories including the mixed matchplay title along with Micky Connolly and mother of the year award bestowed by her son Kevin!
The ladies will get together on Thursday 22nd of November to celebrate the end of their golfing year with all the final presentations (apart from the Turkeys) including the weekly competitions for the last few weeks.
So if you are a winner please ensure you attend the novice ladies prizes will also be presented and it promises to be a great night with a few surprises in store I'm sure!
Happy Birthday to Betty Tighe who was 81 years young on Monday and to Maureen Lynch also was also celebrating on Monday!
