Co Museum gets fundings for exhibit

 

Cavan County Museum in Ballyjamesduff has received a funding allocation of €7,500.00 for an exhibition that focuses on the War of Independence.

The funding was part of a total funding of €138,100 made available under the Regional Museum Exhibitions Scheme 2019, and announced by Minister for Culture, Heritage and the Gaeltacht, Josepha Madigan TD last week.

The Cavan museum is the only museum in the region to receive funding, and the only one in Ulster to be awarded one of the small grants for local and regional museums around the country.

“I am very pleased to offer this support to an important part of our culture and heritage. These cultural bodies are often run on relatively modest budgets and to be in a position to offer support is a very positive thing,” said Minister Madigan. “These bodies are often central focus points within the community and it is vital that they are supported in their role as guardians and narrators of our cultural heritage. The funding provided under this scheme over the past few years has allowed these cultural entities to continue to enhance the presentation of their exhibitions which, in turn, improves the cultural offering of the communities they serve.”

The Cavan County Museum in Ballyjamesduff and the Enniskillen Castle Museum will later this year combine their respective efforts to host a conference dealing with the impact and legacy of events during the War of Independence to the Civil War (1919 to 1923) in the Border region.

The exhibition will be Co Cavan focused, and the conference will be a joint project between both Cavan and Fermanagh museums.

The County Museum meanwhile is currently putting the finishing touches to a new cross-border ‘Shared Space’ facility at the rear of former convent site, which will facilitate events such as workshops, exhibitions, and lectures. The space, its hoped, will be completed and ready for use by the end of Summer.
