**UPDATE** Death of woman not treated as 'suspicious'
As a result of a post mortem examination which concluded yesterday evening, the death of a 54-year-old female at an apartment complex in Cavan Town is “not being treated as suspicious” gardai have said.
Gardaí in Cavan had been investigating all the circumstances regarding the tragic death of the Latvian national, who is believed have been the mother of two children and living in Ireland for the past number of years.
At approximately 6.35am on Thursday, August 5, Gardaí attended the scene of an incident outside an apartment block at Kempton Court, Cavan Town. Emergency Services were already on site and treating the woman who is understood to have suffered serious head injuries.
The woman was subsequently taken by ambulance to Cavan General Hospital where she was later pronounced dead.
It is understood that the incident may have occurred at a first storey apartment with balcony.
A Garda Family Liaison officer was appointed in the case.
Gardaí spent the morning and afternoon conducting door to door enquiries at all Kempton Court apartments. While the area remained sealed off, residents had been free to go about their daily business despite trained forensic personnel attending the scene.
One Kempton Court resident described the deceased to the Celt as 'a nice quiet woman'.
Another resident of the gated community told The Anglo-Celt they were 'shocked' by the death, describing the development as 'a quiet area where you don't expect that kind of thing to happen'.
The remains of the deceased were removed to the mortuary at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda where a post-mortem was carried out by Dr Michael Curtis, Deputy State Pathologist. The purposes of the post-mortem examination was so as to determine what course of the investigation would take.
Yesterday evening, Gardai announced that as a result of the post mortem examination, the death of the woman “is not being treated as suspicious' and the incident may have been the result of a tragic accident. 'A file will now be prepared for the coroner’s office,' the Garda spokesperson said in a statement to this newspaper.
