Priest slams weekend car thefts

“It's very disappointing that, when people have gathered together in prayer, that something awful like this might happen.” Those were the words of Fr Owen Joe McEneaney, Parish Priest at St Patrick’s in Ballybay, where a number of cars were broken into during mass time last Saturday, February 22.
A number of cars were broken into and contents rifled through outside St Patrick's Church between 6:30pm and 7:30pm, and the incident is believed to be linked to a similar series of thefts from vehicles at St Mary's Church, Clontibret, on the same date, between 7:30pm and 8:30pm. A vehicle was found to have been illegally entered at Ballybay Mart between 2:30pm and 3:30pm on Saturday last also.
Gardaí are encouraging anyone who may have witnessed any suspicious activity to contact Monaghan Garda Station on 047-77240.
